Music and Memories

Over the last 12 weeks Irwell Valley residents at Roman Court have been taking part in workshops with Sonder Radio in partnership with Ambition for Ageing. The workshops have helped our residents to reminisce about their past through listening to music.

At the end of the 12 weeks, Sonder Radio held a celebration event for everyone who took part across Salford. Bringing them together to celebrate the journey they have been on. It was truly touching to see the smiles on the residents faces when their favourite songs from the past came on, some of them were up dancing and everyone was singing along.

The same piece of music can trigger different memories within different people, the workshops helped bring them together by sharing their fond memories with each other. At one of the sessions residents were shown photos of Salford from over 50 years ago, with the aim of bringing back memories.

One of our residents at Roman Court found her son in one of the images, she reminisced about the photo and the day it was taken, sharing her story on the Sonder Radio programme.

The programme was an inspirational success and we hope to work in partnership with Sonder and Ambition for Ageing again in the future.
